MBSR 8-week course
MBSR is an 8-week intensive training in mindfulness meditation, based on ancient healing practices. We meet on a weekly basis and the class lasts for two hours. Mindfulness practice helps us develop a greater awareness of the relationship of mind and body, as well as of the ways our unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviours can undermine emotional, physical, and spiritual health. The mind is central in stress and stress-related disorders, and meditation has been shown to change the chemistry of your brain in as little as eight weeks, scientists at Harvard Medical School have found. It is like a workout for the brain, training yourself to be fit to face the challenges that come your way. In addition to mindfulness practices, MBSR uses movement to help us to wake up and connect to our bodies and this can be very helpful especially for those with pain and chronic illness. The program brings meditation and movement together so that the virtues of both can be experienced simultaneously .
"I really liked the experiential nature of the course.....I could use it in everyday life".
"Valerie was so supportive throughout the course allowing us all come to our 'own edge' and contribute in a very comfortable way".
"The mediations were great, and I really had some ‘light bulb’ moments during them. It is amazing what we can learn from our bodies when we sit, tune in & listen to them."
"It will no doubt stand to me in all aspects of life to have completed this course, I’d highly recommend it... "

Mindfulness Day Retreats
Spend a nurturing day in the peaceful Kinsale Arts Centre overlooking the Bandon River exploring Mindfulness. The day involves an introduction to some of the fundamental mindfulness meditation practices which are part of the MBSR journey, a home-cooked lunch will be part of a "mindful eating" meditation, mindful movement in the garden (weather permitting), sound meditation in the arbor, an introduction to mindfulness self compassion and there will be a short silent element to the retreat day. Finding some space to pay attention to ourselves in a calm and holding environment is the core of this day.

"The Mindfulness workshop was one of the most enjoyable workshops I have attended in a good few years, a calm and peaceful day in the most tranquil of settings. Valerie was a superb teacher and host and truly welcoming. Teaching new meditation techniques for mindfulness that were instantly put into use. The class was at a pace to suit each individual and I gained such new insight to mindfulness that I cannot wait to continue my journey. I would recommend any of Valerie's workshops if you are looking for an understanding of Mindfulness, or indeed any workshops with Valerie as she truly opens your eyes to new possibilities. It is a personal shame that I do not live in Ireland to attend more!"

"I recently attended a 1 day mindfulness course with Valerie, in Kinsale. It was my first time doing anything of the kind, and I didn’t know what to expect. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, the surroundings were peaceful and the food was amazing. I definitely left that evening with a calmer demeanour than when I arrived. I certainly haven’t mastered the art yet, but it has definitely made me a little more reflective in my life when things are busy, and makes me more conscious to stop and take time out. I would recommend the course to anyone who thinks that they may be interested but are unsure of what mindfulness entails". Erin 2016
"I attended the one-off introductory taster session in June ‘16. As a newbie to mindfulness, meditation etc. I was pleasantly surprised, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Valerie is a wonderful mindfulness coach and host. The atmosphere was engaging yet relaxing – and the day allowed me to take time out, away from distractions, to unwind, relax and absorb the many useful insights/effective teachings for everyday life. At the end of the day, I felt more confident in my ability to cope with inevitable stresses in life. I left with a positive boost and a smile on my face. I would urge others to avail of the opportunity to gain an insight into the value of practicing mindfulness. I for one, plan on pursuing learning more about mindfulness".
